While millions across America prepare to gather around the table, thousands of parents will sit at empty ones. Their children are gone, not because they were unsafe, but because a system built on power and profit decided it could play God with people’s families.
This year, we are done pretending.
What Is Black Out for Thanksgiving
It is a national day of blackout, an act of digital protest and solidarity for every mother, father, and child separated by DHR and CPS. On Thanksgiving Day, we are asking every supporter, survivor, and advocate to turn their profile pictures black, post the blackout image, and share one message that says:
I will not celebrate while families are being destroyed.
For decades, agencies have hidden behind the language of protection. Behind those words lie stories of injustice, corruption, and state sanctioned kidnapping. Families are stripped apart under the guise of safety while workers falsify records, twist narratives, and call it procedure. Children are placed with strangers while fit relatives are ignored. Parents are punished for poverty, faith, or discipline, while those inside the system collect paychecks built on their pain.
We are calling an ace an ace and a spade a spade. Injustice is injustice. Corruption is corruption. Kidnapping is kidnapping.
Why We Are Doing This
Because silence has protected this system long enough. Every empty chair this Thanksgiving represents a child who should be home, a parent who should be holding them, a family that should be whole. We will not fill that silence with fake gratitude. We will fill it with truth.
The Black Out for Thanksgiving movement is a unified act of resistance, a reminder that family separation is not protection, and it is not something to be thankful for.
