A former Hendricks County Department of Child Services employee is facing 16 felony charges, including falsifying child abuse or neglect information and official misconduct by a public servant.
Brianna Spillman, who resigned her position in November 2024, was arrested on August 18, 2025, and later bonded out of jail. Spillman worked as a case manager and is accused of fabricating visits with families and children. In one report she claimed to have seen a child healthy, free of bruises, headed to a softball game, and wearing a uniform. The father later told investigators that no DCS worker ever visited his home, that he had never been notified about an assessment, and that neither of his children played softball. His wife added that the family was living in a hotel outside of Brownsburg at the time.
Other families also reported never having met Spillman, despite her official records stating otherwise.
Spillman’s arrest is not an isolated failure. It is a warning of how deeply flawed this system has become. Until accountability reaches every level of child protection agencies, families will continue to be torn apart and children will remain at risk.
